Preschoolers from three years onwards normally learn how to interact with others and play reciprocally with others. A lack of constructive play skills may indicate a delay in early conceptual learning or verbal comprehension, or a more general developmental delay. Investigation can provide information regarding underlying problems.
Social emotional delay and/or challenging behaviours can also hinder a child’s capacity to relate to peers in an age appropriate fashion. It is best to address these deficits early, prior to starting school.
Consultations can arm parents with necessary information and strategies to improve play skills and social interaction. Contact Michelle for any further queries.
