What is the Bayley Scales of Infant Development?
The Bayley Scales of Infant & Toddler Development – Third Edition is an individually administered standardised assessment that measures the developmental functioning of infants and young children aged between one month and 42 months of age.
Its primary purpose is to identify children with developmental delay and to provide information for intervention planning.
This assessment can give a Mental Development Index score which
indicates where your child is functioning cognitively. Strengths and
needs can be identified to give an overall indication of what gaps
there are in your child’s development.
The Bayley Scales of Infant Development assesses develoment across five domains:
- Cognitive.
- Language.
- Gross motor and fine motor.
- Social-emotional.
- Adaptive.
It must be administered by a registered psychologist.
