Child with attachment issues

The bonding between a mother and her baby plays a crucial role in a child’s development. However, sometimes this bonding can face challenges for various reasons, leading to attachment issues. Factors such as unavoidable separation, maternal depression or illness, mismatched interaction styles, or difficult, unsettled babies can all contribute to insecure attachment between mother and baby. Such attachment issues may hinder normal social development and the child’s ability to develop a secure sense of self.

Insecure attachment may manifest in different ways. Some children may appear aloof and unresponsive, while others may exhibit constant clinginess, demanding behaviour, and difficulties in separating.

I can offer consultations and ongoing feedback and guidance to address these concerns. There are effective interventions available to improve the bonding process, such as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) sessions. Clinical research has demonstrated that PCIT can significantly enhance attachment and bonding between parents and their children.
